As many of you may know, I’ve never been one to sit on my heels and let life pass me by. I’ve seen too many people let a small setback change the course of their lives forever. Long ago, I decided that I can, within reason, be whoever or whatever I want to be. I knew that committing to some of the changes I’ve undergone would involve a lot of hard work and patience, but those were risks I was willing to take. Today, I’d like to share a few tips that you can apply to help yourself become the person you really want to become.

  1. Create a vision for your future.

You must be able to see the future you would like to achieve. It may be a specific job title, moving to a new city, or even just a vision of a better person you’d like to become. No vision is too small to pursue. As and exercise you might want to experiment with a small, attainable goal, and then move on.

  1. Write about your reinvention.

Once you clearly see yourself in your new future, you should write down as many details as possible. This helps make the vision more real and by focusing on the details you can begin to overcome some imaginary roadblocks. Write as much as you want—the more detailed you can be, the better equipped you will be to reach tangible goals.

  1. Surround yourself with visual reminders of the life you’d like to create.

You may be surprised if you stop and consider how much the things you see on a daily basis can affect your mood and outlook. If you can create a visual reminder that symbolizes something you would like to achieve, self-consciously you will reinforce that as part of your reality. Keep this reminder in a place that you will see regularly. Soon it will become a part of your life.

  1. Break your vision up into small, defined tasks.

What do you need to do—every day—to create that vision? Look for work? Meet new people? Search for a place to live in your chosen town? Make it specific. Make a list of everything you need to do and a schedule for when you’ll do it. Then do it and commit to keep doing it, one day at a time.

  1. Every day, take time to think about your vision.

Every morning or evening, close your eyes, and envision yourself living your new life. If you consistently see yourself progressing towards your goals and achieving success, you will eliminate the doubt and fear that holds so many people back.

It’s important to always keep in mind that even with a positive mindset and focus you may (probably will) run into hurdles along the way. Don’t think of these hurdles as failures, but rather opportunities to learn more and make your success even sweeter!
