It’s a story as old as the hills, told time and time again throughout history. The classic tale of Romeo and Juliet – star-crossed lovers who’s families’ prejudice and unwarranted hatred took the ultimate toll. Even today – when two people fall in love who are from different races, different religions, different cultural backgrounds – it can provide fodder for familial discontent. What to do? Is it better to give in and follow the fold, so to speak? Or stand your ground and defend your right to choose whom you want to be with? Personally, I believe that one has to live for one’s own happiness, and not the happiness of others. But it’s a sticky wicket to say the least. Being forced to choose between your lover and your family is not a pleasant thing. Thoughts?
